|

I have a Tungsten T and after losing all my battery power and performed a hard reset I no longer can launch the applications menu. I've seen advice that you can
- do another hard reset
- install overlay language files
I've done both as well as installed the Tungsten T update.
Doesn't seem to help. I get the same message: Launch Error - The application cannot be launched because it is missing localization information.
Does anyone have any idea what else to do?

Is the launcher the only thing that crashes? Try installing some other launcher over hotsync and see if that works and you can launch other programs OK.
But since the launcher is corrupted and its in ROM, you're ROM must be corrupted and you are stuck sending it in for repair. |

Here's what you should do to fix the problem. FIx make sure that you've HotSynced, so that the information you had before this problem happended is stored on your computer. Then, do a Hard Reset, which means holding down the power button while pressing the reset button on the back. Then remove the Backup Folder from Users>Your Home Folder>Documents>Palm>Users>Your Palm User Name. Take the Backup Folder and put it on your desktop. Hotsync again and everything will be fixed, but you will have to install any extra programs that you have installed over time.
Good Luck! |

| I tried something in the vein of blueztelecaster's suggestion, and it worked. In my case, the file was just Launcher.prc which got corrupted. So I synced up, then went into my Backup folder and deleted Launcher.prc, did a hard reset and synced up again--and all is well now. Thanks for that suggestion! |

Most excellent. Thanks to blueztelecaster for the tip. This is a good general tip for fixing any kind of serious crashes on your Palm.
To fonix: How did you come to have a file called Launcher.prc in RAM? That's suppose to be a ROM file. Did you try installing an updated Palm launcher or something? |

I had FileZ on a memory card. I mapped a button to launch filez, and deleted the launcher.prc from the internal palm card. That fixed it as well, without doing the backup procedure.

After searching ALL over the the PALM site, hard resetting at least four times... uninstalling and reinstalling from the cd/rom and then patches from online.... YOU guys just solved my problem!!!
It was weird... the Media program on my T|e3 just changed over to Photo-foto and then various other problems all started to show up... launchers corrupted, everything that you wrote about in the earlier posts.
(I think I sync'ed on a PC with the old T|e desktop... and somehow the two desktops merged and mutated... )
I did the sync... hard reset.... and moved the backup file to my desktop. Voila! Thanks again everyone!!!

Dear blueztelecaster-
I just spend about 10 minutes going through the registration process for this board so I could thank you for your post regarding the Palm "lunch error." Your help was worth every bit of the time I'm spending to thank you. I have a new Palm 700p. Just got it today as an upgrade from the 650. I sync'd using my profile from the 650 prior to installing the new software that came with the new phone. Everything sync'd fine, just that the calender would not lauch. I followed your instructions and BAM..worked like a charm. Syncing to the old profile must of corrupted a launch file or something.
You da man.
Thanks again. |

| Stan, can you provide some more information about what's going on in your particular situation? Exactly what error message are you getting and when does it occur? Every time you start the launcher? Or is it triggered by some other program or action? |

Problem fixed!!!!!
You guys got it right.
My problem was that I was actually doing a soft reset (did not realize that you had to get to second screen before I came off the power button, nothing about that in Users Guide)
Did a real HARD reset and it worked!!!!!
Palm support was EXCELLENT and rapid.
Thanks to everybody.

Hi Texasgirl,
Did you install the Palm Desktop application that came with the Treo, or try and use the version you were using with your Tungsten (there are differences)? |

TexaasGirl, its the Palm photos app that's crashing, right? It sure sounds like you ended up accidentally installing the old Tungsten Photo app on your new Treo. Go into the launcher and find that photo app and delete it. Then the one that's on your Treo in ROM will run instead of the Tungsten one in RAM. That should fix your problem.
Also, do make sure that you install the new Palm Desktop/Hotsync from the Treo CD as suggested if you haven't already done that. |
