I have a lifedrive and Outlook 2000 under XP. Installed palm desktop and then changed to outlook for sync'ing calendar and contacts. Hot sync works fine, but calendar and contacts are not sync'ed. When I check the hot sync log, contacts and calendar does not show up at all. Hotsync action for both calendar and contacts is set to desktop overwrites handheld.
When I check in the c:\palmone folder , there is no sub folder with my user name. I've checked and the user name for hot sync on the lifedrive is the same as the user name for hotsync on the PC. Under outlook on my pc there is a folder called handheld syncronization and that also has the same user name.

Right click on the Hotsync icon in your Windows task tray. Select "Custom" and look at the conduits there. If the Outlook sync installed correctly, you should have (among other things) several items that say Outlook next to them like this:
