First Annual Palm Mobifest Awards Top Honours To New Stars of the Small Screen
TORONTO, May 17 /CNW/ - Palm Mobifest: Canada's Mobile Film Festival today announced the winners of its inaugural competition at a screening and awards ceremony at the Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. The winners are listed below, in their respective categories:
- Best of Festival - Regurgitation, by Harley Hay (Red Deer, Alberta)
- Best Canadian Mobile Film - Swings | Sits, by Michael Tung (Toronto, Ontario)
- Best caught on Treo - The Trio, by Luciano Leraci (Toronto, Ontario)
The judges also gave honourable mention to Monkey Trilogy by Ben Murray, and If these walls could talk by Midi Onodera.
Hosted by comedian Sean Cullen, this year's Festival winners were chosen from a pool of 60 international finalists from Columbia, Argentina, Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, the U.S., and Canada. More than 200 entries were originally entered into the competition, and finalist films can be viewed at www.mobifest.ca.
Judged by leading industry experts representing key segments of the Canadian entertainment industry, the awards honor the highest achievement in mobile film production based on mobile aesthetics, audience impact and degree of creativity.
Award-winners will be aired on Movieola - The Short Film Channel and also have a special screening on Air Canada flights throughout the summer of 2006. Harley Hay, Best of Festival winner also will receive a mobile movie production package valued at $1,500, and will be invited to be part of the judging panel for Mobifest 2007.
Created to recognize excellence and innovation in made-for-mobile films, the international competition is the first film festival of its kind, in that it is exclusively mobile - all film content is shot and created specifically for the "small screen" - either for a mobile phone, smartphone or other handheld device.
"We have always touted the flexibility and choice that our devices offer customers, and with annual events like Palm Mobifest, we hope to encourage even more partnerships that will keep testing the limits and creative ways to use Palm technology," says Michael Moskowitz, president, Americas, Palm Inc. "In its inaugural year, Palm Mobifest has demonstrated that mobile content is ready for its close-up."
"We're exceptionally pleased with the widespread interest and attention the festival has received, and wish to thank all of the filmmakers who are helping to break new ground in mobile movie making," adds Duncan Kennedy, executive director, Palm Mobifest.
